Joint Teaching and Learning Projects

Beyond Levels and Subjects

For once, two educational levels that are closely linked in various respects are moving very close together. This situation offers the opportunity to work together and tackle topics that are relevant to both levels. New things can be developed and tried out together – even beyond subject boundaries – and perhaps previously hidden or unknown things can be made visible and accessible. In short: joint teaching and learning projects offer the opportunity to network, get to know each other better and thus make everyday life together on the Irchel campus more trusting and exciting.

What are the objects of the projects?

  • The projects promote study information and study choice.
  • They serve to promote academic and interdisciplinary skills.
  • They provide practical insights into UZH and the schools.
  • They promote discourse at the interface between university and upper secondary school (and vice versa).
  • They serve the exchange and cooperation between school teachers and members of the UZH teaching staff, students and schools and UZH in general.
  • They serve to attract teaching degree students and future teachers.

Areas of Collaboration

Schools and faculties have identified six areas as suitable frameworks for joint projects:

  • Optional subjects
The area "optional subjects" offers the opportunity to jointly develop courses that did not previously exist at the schools. Students or doctoral students who are interested in the teaching profession can also get involved within the framework of optional subjects.
  • Project weeks
The schools' project weeks offer teachers, UZH lecturers and researchers – also across disciplines and faculties – the opportunity to explore and work on topics with or for pupils that could not be realized before. Students and doctoral candidates who are interested in the teaching profession can also get involved in project weeks.
  • Matura theses
Pupils can benefit from the expertise of UZH members during their Matura thesis. In what form is to be defined. The close proximity of schools and UZH should promote equal opportunities and enable talented pupils who have no personal connections to UZH to have this opportunity.
  • Try Teaching
Students who are interested in teaching at upper secondary schools have the opportunity to sit in on a class for a few hours, take on small tasks in the classroom themselves or participate in project weeks and optional subjects.
  • Brown Bag Meetings
Meetings over lunchtime offer the opportunity to learn more about and discuss current topics of interest to upper secondary schools and UZH.
  • Open lecture halls
During open lecture hall weeks, upper secondary school pupils who are about to graduate from upper secondary school have the opportunity to get a different kind of study information and get a taste of certain lectures and degree programs.
